I have a weakness for female singer/songwriter types. Not just pretty pop tarts with good voices, but girls with real soul and talent. Folks like Beth Orton, Nina Persson, Mazzy Star, Sinead O’Connor and PJ Harvey.
I recently discovered a new artist aspiring to those ranks, her name’s Carla Werner, and she’s an Aussie. Well, she was born in New Zealand, but like all talented Kiwi’s we claim her as our own ![]()
I saw her play at the Annandale last night and she rocked! Beautiful passionate songs, a striking voice and stunning to look at. A deadly combination
The songs from her album all sounded great live. To close the show she and her band did a blazing cover of Led Zeppelin’s Dazed and Confused.
I’m not sure i’d quite put her in the same company as the women i mentioned in the first paragraph yet. But she’s only released one album. If she keeps it up there’ll be no stopping her. I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on her.
Yes, realy she is claimable !

She guest-vocalled on 1 Giant Leap
Hey if you didn’t see Carla play on 3 June at the Annandale you REALLY missed out. I saw the March gig also and this was in another universe entirely. I love Carla whenever I see her play, but on 3 June she was pure magic. The band were fantastic and Carla’s vocals were extraordinary, amazing, magnificent and more superlatives than i can think of!
Were you there? did you take photos? I hope so! if you did, post them!
Damn! No i didn’t go to the 3rd June show. I was all set to, but i had my arm twisted to go see another show that night. Sounds like i missed out on something special.
