The Finest Irish Troubadour

Damien Rice and Carla Werner backstage at the Gaelic Club

Holy crap. I just saw the most amazing gig. Damien Rice and Carla Werner at the Gaelic Club. Y’all know how much i dig Carla Werner, i haven’t mentioned Damien Rice before but i’ve been in love with his record since i heard it, and tonight he was just incredible. So many shivers down the spine moments. And he can make one hell of a racket with just him and a guitar. I’m going to see them both again tomorrow night. Should be even better at the Metro.

Oh, i also got to go backstage and meet the two of them. So awesome. They’re both lovely. I’m still beaming. Thanks Suze ;)

tried to get tickets to both but they’d BOTH sold out (because some greedy people are going twice :P ).

That would have been a great gig, but I just want to know since when tickets to the Gaelic club (of all places) cost the $60 odd dollars Damien Rice was charging? I (although I regret it now) just couldnt rationalise spending that amount of money when homebake is only costing $70.

Yeah tickets were mighty expensive. The crowd skewed a fair bit older than your average gig. I guess they’ve got more money to splash about. I was lucky enough to be on the guestlist. But i did make a $10 donation to the Donkey Sanctuary in Ireland as per Damien Rice’s request. No shit. He loves donkeys.
I paid the $50 for tonight’s gig though.

You lucky devil! I did see him at Glastonbury this year where he was damn good but his chelloist stole the show a little with her solo version of white stripes seven nation army and then I was damn lucky enough to see him for free as part of an audience for a telly special, he has this wicked nack of making the hairs stand up on my neck like no other! The only downside to this headliner special was no cameras…

I was a little concerned that it wouldn’t be so great without the celloist and female vocals. But it was incredible with just him. He reinvents the songs and performs them in different ways to the album. Which i always like when i see a live show. It was so amazing. I get shivers just thinking about it…

damien rice is a bloody legend. at first was a bit peeved that the band weren’t coming out (rumour is that they’ll be here nxt year), but from all accounts people have been saying the solo gigs have been top notch. seeing him tonite in melbourne and again tomorrow. i gotta say sydney fans were lucky to see missy as well.
