So Best

Wolfmother at the Metro

Inspired by elmo, Monica, The NME, Asterisk, Q, Triple J, Hicksdesign and my own taste is some of my favourite things this year.

Records of the Year

2004 was a damn fine year for new music. I tried to create a list of just ten discs but couldn't cull any of the following which all got a thorough thrashing on the headphones.

Aha Shake Heartbreak - Kings of Leon
Funeral - The Arcade Fire
Uh Huh Her - PJ Harvey
A Grand Don't Come for Free - The Streets
Hot Fuss - The Killers
Love is Hell - Ryan Adams
Pawn Shoppe Heart - The Von Bondies
Hopes and Fears - Keane
Red Riders EP
Bloc Party EP
Wolfmother EP
Stomp on Tripwires - The Cops
Antics - Interpol
Bright Like Neon Love - Cut Copy
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand

Gigs of the Year

I saw a whole lotta great live music this year. But the following shows stuck in my mind the longest. You can see pictures of some of these gigs in my gig photo gallery.

Damien Rice & Carla Werner at the Metro 19/4/04
Les Savy Fav and Pretty Girls Make Graves (karaoke style) on a boat on Sydney Harbour 21/11/04
The Von Bondies at the Annandale 11/4/04
Spod at Spectrum 1/10/04
Wolfmother/Red Riders/The Cops/+more at the Metro 19/12/04
Peaches/Spod/Regurgitator at the Barracks Bar 21/1/04

Best Movies

2004 wasn't a particularly inspiring year for movies but Before Sunset and Shaun of the Dead were both superb.

elmo:

whoo hoo! indeed.

i'd just like to thank you danster, for teaching me everything i know about blogging and always sharing the good stuff. *wobble hug*. 100 posts behind, i'm on yo' ass!

oh man, how could i forget ryan adams, love is hell?! move over, Interpol.

Dan:

Aw shucks elmo. *wobble hug*

I kind of snuck Love is Hell on there. The 2 EP's were released in 2003, but the combined album was in 2004. So that's why it qualified. Plus it's totally awesome and needed to get recognised. My thanks to you for finally making me listen properly to Ryan Adams.

fully sick lists there boud.

I'm totally happy that interpol's in there (sorry elmo - i digs 'em big time).

so want to jump wolfmothers bones right now.

elmo:

oh no, i love interpolol long time too. they just had to shuffle over. ah ryan adams, how do i love thee? let me count the ways.

ekin:

You have a good taste in music, Dan!
Isn't Banquet by Bloc Party the coolest song? Whenever i hear it I feel like grabbing a skipping rope and skipping- i think its the beat that does it.

Dan:

Banquet is quite possibly my favourite song of the year. As soon as those drums start at the beginning of the song i get all kinds of excited.
