The "Australia's Best Blog" competition recently finished provoking no small amount of controversy. There's some good blogs in the finalists, but the judging process appeared to be lacking. And i feel the company that ran it thought of it more as a PR campaign than an attempt to run a fair competition.
A more open and participatory competition is run at The Australian Blog Awards. There's no money at stake, it's just for fun. And they have many different categories, which seems a fairer way to judge and means more winners. They're open for nominations now.
Also on now is the Gridskipper Urban Blogging Awards. Somehow i've managed to scrape in as a nominee in the "Best Urban Music Blog" category against such heavyweights as Brooklyn Vegan and Stereogum. I'm trailing rather pathetically right now with 2.2% of the vote.
But that's enough about blogs. It's almost the weekend, time to go outside and enjoy the summer (for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere).
