Thought i’d share a peek behind the scenes of my image editing. In this example the shot on the left is straight out of the camera – awash with red and pretty much unusable. On the right is a retouched version where i adjusted the colour (using colour balance) and did some burning to remove distractions in the background.
It’s an extreme case, most of the images on my site are never opened in Photoshop, or if they are the adjustments are minimal. But sometimes Photoshop can come to the rescue if you’ve got a great image that’s spoiled by a colour cast or other imperfection.
I really can’t live without Photoshop.
Not to say that I retouch every photo I use.. But now, with CS2, makes organising RAW files SOOOOOOO much easier.
The mystery of this one solved!
I never really use RAW format, except if i’m shooting studio stuff. Takes way too long to open the files on my aging computer.

Wow, that’s some pretty severe editing for a jpeg. Do you find the quality of the image is affected much? Must introduce a bit of grain n shit?
It probably does add a bit of grain, but i’m not really making many pixels lighter, just changing the colour hue, so the grain ain’t too bad in this one.

Thanks Blake – I haven’t seen it yet, there’s not many places to find Mess and Noise in Sydney. Though i’m told Fish Records in Glebe has some.
Redeye always has a whole bunch as well.
Definately agree that Photoshop is a life saver sometimes.. It really helped ‘make’ this picture I have to say. Nice work.
