Photographing Jet

Jet

On Sunday afternoon in Melbourne i had the rather fun photographic assignment of accompanying Jet before, during and after their ’secret’ gig on the banks of the Yarra river for triple j. No staged photos, just fly-on-the-wall stuff.

Jet

That meant hanging about in their hotel room, going to their interview with Jay and The Doctor then hopping on a boat with them down the river to the barge they were playing on. Then i photographed the whole set from the stage and hopped back on the boat with them afterwards.

Jet

Lots of fun and a fascinating insight into the rock’n'roll high life.

It was so much more access than i’m used to plus i was getting paid reasonably well. I’m very lucky.

I’ll post a fuller gallery soon.

The concert is being broadcast Live at the Wireless tonight (Thursday) at 8pm and will be on jtv soon.

If you’re in Sydney and don’t have your ears locked to triple j, you really out to get out to a great gig at Candy’s. It’s the EP launch for Marching Room, also featuring Dance with Voices, Tokyo Blonde and Bird Automatic. All brought to you by the fine folks at Sandwich Club.

Dan! Amazing shots. This kind of access must be providing you with some anecdotes to divulge. When will we see Boudist: The Book of Stories & Pictures??? It must be in the making.
What is happening with the Big Day Out? Step up from a photo pass this year?
I’m not terribly excited about the international line up this year, but it is my lucky 13th year of the BDO… how could I miss it?

  5. Dan says:

I’m still not sure if i’m in for the Big Day Out. It’s a tough one to shoot as everyone wants a pass. I’ve got my fingers crossed SPIN will come through again.

  6. Matt says:

So very very cool Dan, you definitely could be a rockstar with this life you’re leading..hah..

  7. Dan says:

I’ve got no talent for singing, and i don’t have the patience to learn to play an intrument very well. So this is as close as i’ll get, documenting those who can.

  8. I’ve got everything crossed for BDO…been trying to get in for years. Can’t say I blame them though. Not enough outlets for photos up here…all I can offer them is a smile. One day.

  9. Deb says:

Thanks for the heads up re Candy’s. Assuming one was an aid worker in sydney this weekend – escaping from the wilds of Banda Aceh – any other suggestions? rock star-esque/culture-esque/anything-esque?

    Gorgeous shot of Nic, Dan.
Every time I log in to what you’re doing you’ve taken another step up that mythical ladder. So proud of you. Hope I can get my act together when I get home and you can be a photographer for me one day :)
