Last Thursday i was accredited to take photos at Ryan Adams at the Enmore Theatre. Beforehand the photographers were warned that we'd just get two songs to shoot from the sound desk.
That was disappointing, but it turned out to be totally pointless taking pictures after Ryan Adams began playing in almost total darkness.
I thought it was a move just to sabotage photographers, but it seemed he was happy to play in the dark for the whole set to the thousand odd punters who paid about $70 a ticket.
Many in the crowd were pissed off and there was a lot of heckling along the lines of "turn some fu*king lights on!"
It seemed to rattle Ryan and created an uncomfortable vibe for most of the gig.
Read more on the gig at A Reminder, Fasterlouder and Elmo's review for The Brag.
On top of my dissapointment of walking away with crap photos, i absent mindedly left behind my Crumpler backpack at the venue. Thankfully it was mostly empty, but i lost several flash cards and batteries. Bugger.

And you think YOU were disappointed you couldn't see him - I was straining my peepers to get a look at my future husband there.

i'd probably say you're not alone in getting average pics dan.. and i'd also say you're definitely not the only unhappy person to walk out of the enmore theatre that night.

The Friday gig, Dan! Oh if only you'd have been there. We still couldn't see him, but the gig was sensational. Nice photo, heh.

I wasn't at the show but what I do know of Ryan Adams is that he will do what he wants to do and he would have had that lighting set up simply because he liked the atmosphere it created.
I've heard a lot about what the crowd did from recounts from Sean and it just goes to prove that more and more Sydney is getting wankier and wankier.
There's a time for being pissed off but behaviour like heckling an international musician like Ryan Adams is what makes me want to go to gigs in Sydney less and less.
It just makes us look like a bunch of wankers.

The Ryan Adams gig was certainly one of the tougher ones, not even an 800mm lens would've made up for the lack of lighting! And well done on the new job, awesome gig.

These things happen from time to time, he'll be the one regretting that he didn't get any decent Australian tour photos. Did you get to Tim Roger's shows this week? I took some photos, but they didn't turn out as well as I would like.
