A new blog about photography on the scene. It's quite good.

This makes me feel a little better for being a renter while everyone else gets a mortgage

A provocative headline, but it's a look at the way The Raconteurs are releasing their next album. To fans the same day as press.

A clever idea for a photo project. Shoot pedestrians in New York as they wait to cross the road.

Shot in the South Australian desert. Warwick and My Disco make a great team.

Esquire takes a novel interview technique with George Clooney - sitting with a laptop and showing him all the things "the internet" says about him.

A look at the popularity of the Holga. Cybele gave me one for Christmas a couple of years ago. I shot two rolls on it and never touched it again. I do like the format, just not the expense and labour involved in the processing. I'd like to dig it out agai

This is from last year, but while we're talking Nick Denton here's an in depth feature on the blogging culture he's fostered.

Photo catch up
Here's a trawl through the archives of my Flickr stream of photos that never made it to Boudist.
Most were shot for Time Out, but some are personal work.

I've been saving links to del.icio.us for years and rolling them into my RSS feed for a while, but until now i haven't been posting them to Boudist too.
Now that i find myself with less time to blog, it's a quick and easy way to keep adding content to the site.

I've been a long time admirer of Nikola's work. Firstly his nightlife photography but now also his often quite raunchy and provocative portraits. He's recently created this new photoblog to show off his work. Probably not safe for work.

Every day i'm inspired by the work of other photographers on Flickr. This is where some of my favourite shots are archived.
The Andrew G swirly light trick
These are some photos from Moon Bar on the rooftop of the Banyan Tree hotel in Bangkok. The effect with the lights is a simple technique that i learned from Cybele who learned it from Andrew G while shooting a party at Harry M Miller's penthouse.
Using flash, simply set your shutter speed to about half a second and take your photo while spinning the camera in a circular fashion. Check my settings here.
You need to be in a location where there is lots of speckled light behind the subject, such as a rooftop at night with the city in the background.
This is what it looked like with the camera held still.

Tribes of Sydney
This weeks edition of Time Out Sydney was pretty fun to shoot. I shot 13 different "tribes" of Sydney. From rockabillies to skaters to revheads to goths. It was a 16 page feature profiling and taking pride in Sydney's subcultures.

Laneway Festival Sydney 2008
The rather splendid Laneway Festival rolled around again this weekend past. I was fresh off the plane from Thailand and flung forth into the throngs of indie kids partying in the heart of the city.
Some of the acts performing included Feist, The Presets, Bridezilla, Dan Deacon, Stars and Cool Kids.
You can see all my shots in the Laneway Festival 2008 gallery.
