Ladies of the Red Carpet

Cate Blanchett

Here's a few snaps i've taken on red carpets lately. First up is Cate Blanchett who turned up for the Sydney premiere of Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

Next was the opening night of the Sydney Film Festival. I spent much of the time scratching my head asking the other photographers who these people were that were posing for us. I don't think i read enough gossip mags.

Laura Dundovic

This is Laura Dundovic who was recently crowned Miss Universe Australia.

Rachel Taylor

Rachel Taylor is a local actress who found some notoriety in the Transformers film.

As i like to do at these things, i took some wide snaps to show the scene. Below is Krystal Forscutt who's really stretching out her 15 minutes of fame post Big Brother.

Great photos Daniel... I have a question:

In the first two pics for example, how do you get them to look directly at your camera? (Considering there's a crowd of photographers around)

Your "guide to concert photography" is awesome BTW. Thanks!

Dan:

You've just got to grab their attention. That can be by staking out the best position in the photography pen, so you're front and centre. Or it could be by yelling and waving till the person looks at you. Or it could be just luck.

The seasoned red carpet walkers are well trained in pausing and looking down the barrel for as many photographers as they can.

Dan:

Had my first Red Carpet shoot on the past long weekend Monday @ Jack Black's Kung Fu Panda premiere

"yelling and waving till the person looks at you" - this was where I fail, I'm too shy to generate such attention haha - just lucked it out & managed to get all the mains by simply timing....obviously this is not a practice I should keep if I become a regular shooter for these events, going to have to get out of my comfort zone in future I think

didn't manage to crank out the wide lens....love seeing your shots with all the photogs in a huddle around guests - can't afford to get another body & no time to change....unfortunately I am not guaranteed publication due to shooting for an agency, so I didn't want to take a chance in missing something
