Romance Was Born : RAFW 2010

Romance Was Born backstage

Romance Was Born was, as has become the norm, the most memorable and spectacular of the shows i saw at Fashion Week. It was held in MacLaurin Hall in Sydney University which was decked out in the theme for the show – ‘Renaissance Dinosaur’. So much attention to detail and creativity gone wild.

Therese Rawsthorne : RAFW 2010

Here’s some photos from behind the scenes of Therese Rawsthorne‘s show at Australian Technology Park for Fashion Week.

Friedrich Gray : RAFW 2010

Friedrich Gray backstage

Photos from backstage at Friedrich Gray‘s Australian Fashion Week show. Friedrich Gray was the first ever fashion show i photographed. It was in 2007 at The Kirk, a church in Surry Hills and i was snapping for the now defunct Australian edition of Dazed and Confused. I’ve shot each of his fashion week shows since, [...]

I’m a bit late to the game posting my photos from Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, but expect a glut to come.

17th Biennale of Sydney

I went on a tour of the Biennale of Sydney on Tuesday, taking pictures for Time Out Sydney’s biennale coverage. There’s so much on display i didn’t even see half of it. It spans lots of venues, but as usual, the highlight is Cockatoo Island which makes a lovely day trip on the harbour to [...]

A photo tribute to Surry Hills

surry-hills-show-19

To coincide with the Surry Hills themed issue of Time Out Sydney, the magazine held a one night only photo exhibition at Urban Uprising featuring 20 of my pictures, plus some more by Will Storr. The pictures are all of Surry Hills people and places, some taken on assignment for Time Out, some just my [...]

Sydney Festival 2010

I love Sydney in January. There’s that post-holiday glow that still remains, the exceptional beach weather (between torrential downpours), and then there’s the festivals and gigs. One of the great pleasures of my job is getting to photograph those festivals, the biggest and most diverse of which is Sydney Festival. I love it because i [...]

Miss Pole Dance Australia 2010

Back in October i took some pictures at Miss Pole Dance Australia 2010 at the Enmore Theatre. I spent most of my time backstage. While i’m at it, here’s some photos from last year’s competition. Here’s some video of this year’s competition.

Sydney Dance Company promo video

Back in August i had a dream gig shooting stills on the set of a promo video for Sydney Dance Company. The one minute piece was shot with six dancers from the Sydney Dance Company, choreographed by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela. It was all filmed in the Deutsche Bank building in Sydney’s CBD. Credit is [...]

Breakfast on the Bridge

6000 Sydneysiders walked onto a grass covered Sydney Harbour Bridge yesterday morning for the first ever Breakfast on the Bridge. Real grass turf was rolled out from pylon to pylon to cover the length of the bridge and provide a soft spot to picnic. The grass, the people, the cows and lack of cars made [...]

Sydney’s Apocalyptic Red Dawn

Like all Sydneysiders i awoke this morning to the most intense red glow beaming into my bedroom window. A quick look out the window then a look online confirmed that a dust storm of epic proportions had enveloped Sydney. While the comfort of bed tempted me, the photographer in me decided to head out the [...]

Dappled Cities launch Zounds

On Tuesday night Dappled Cities hosted a listening party with a difference for their new album Zounds. Held at Kennards Self Storage in Waterloo, Dappled commissioned 12 artists to decorate 12 different storage rooms in whatever fashion they wished. Each room featured a soundtrack of a particular song from the album on repeat. Definitely one [...]

Performances at Sydney Theatre

Here’s some photos from performances i’ve shot at Sydney Theatre in the past couple of months. Shooting this sort of thing is a refreshing way to use the skills i’ve learned from concert photography for other sorts of performance. Shooting dance is especially rewarding, freezing those split second moments that pass too quick for the [...]

Sydney Songs closes Creative Sydney

The three week run of Creative Sydney came to an end on Friday night with a performance of Sydney Songs at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Many Sydney muso’s performed songs about Sydney backed by the Alan Dale Allstars, lead by Lindsay McDougal. Creative Sydney was a fantastic initiative, focusing attention on the often unacknowledged [...]

Romance Was Born : RAFW 2009

The last of my fashion week posts is from the spectacular Romance Was Born show at The Wharf Restaurant on Sydney Harbour. As with previous shows from the designers it was extravagant, theatrical, kitsch and featured my old neighbour Pauly. There was an aquatic theme going on, with shells, sea creatures, scales, coral, sea captains [...]

ANT!PODiUM : RAFW 2009

Here’s some backstage shots of the ANT!PODiUM show at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. It was quite a ‘punk’ show with men in womenswear, rodent accessories and jewellery crafted from tampons.

Therese Rawsthorne : RAFW 2009

Next up from Fashion Week was Therese Rawsthorne who held her show on site at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. Her show featured the model who seemed to be the “it girl” of the week, Myf Shepherd.

Friedrich Gray : RAFW 2009

Friedrich Gray

During Rosemount Australian Fashion Week i had the privilege of photographing a number of shows backstage for fashion PR firm Little Hero. They represent the cream of exciting young designers including Friedrich Gray, ANT!PODiUM, Therese Rawsthorne and Romance Was Born. The Scare have No Money

A few weeks ago i dropped in on The Scare and the gents from The Grindhouse while they were filming the clip for No Money. The performance was filmed in a Redfern studio and interspersed with footage the band took on a night on the town. No Money (downloadable for free) is taken from their [...]
