Big in Japan party

Some photos from last night’s Big in Japan party at Carriageworks.
It was presented by Kirin and Ksubi and featured several Japanese performance artists.
All very odd, very fashionable, very Japanese.

DIVA Awards 2009

For the 3rd year in a row i photographed the red carpet of Sydney’s drag industry awards, the DIVA’s on Monday night for Time Out Sydney.
The awards were held at The Bourbon in Kings Cross and although pretty much anything goes in Kings Cross, there were still loads of tourists stopped in their tracks, gobsmacked [...]

Brüno premiere and Time Out Sydney after party

Here’s some photos from the Sydney premiere of Bruno at the State Theatre plus the after party hosted by Time Out Sydney at Zeta Bar in the Hilton.
Shooting these things is simultaneously exciting and mind numbingly dull. Photographers queue for hours beforehand, trying to nab a plum spot in the media pen. Then it’s waiting, [...]

Sydney Barmy for Russell Brand

Sydney seemed in the grip of Russell Brand fever when he visited last week to perform two sold out nights at the Enmore Theatre and Hordern Pavilion.
He’s got quite the reputation as a ladies man and I got to see the effect he has on womenfolk up close at an after party Time Out hosted [...]

Mardi Gras 2009
My Saturday evening was spent photographing Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
It was the first time i’d photographed the parade as an accredited photographer. Previously i’d been as a spectator, toting a milk crate to get a decent view. So it was quite a privelege being able to wander up and down the parade [...]

One80 Project finalist screening
On February 1st i photographed the Optus One80 Project finalist screenings. The One80 Project is a film/tv making competition where you create a 180 second pilot of TV drama series. The winning pilot is then greenlit into production by MTV.
The finalist screening was a lovely evening held in Harmony Park Surry Hills. It’s all open [...]

Drag Industry Variety Awards 2008
On Monday evening i enjoyed the company of some amazing drag queens frocked up for the 2008 DIVA Awards at Paddington Town Hall.
It was oddly like catching up with old friends as i realised how many drag queens i’ve met in the past year shooting for Time Out.
Courtney Act who won the "Belle of the [...]

A party for all
Here’s a few snaps from a party that was held amongst a few of the houses on our street on Saturday.
The street was blocked off because of the road closures caused by the pilgrims march for World Youth Day.
We thought it might be an opportune time to have a party on [...]

Munted Punters
It’s been a while since i’ve done party photos, but i was doing some last week and it reminded me of the ugly phenomenon of the munted punter.
The common traits generally seem to be: male, silly hand gesture, often wearing a hat, teeth clenched, overly eager to be photographed.
Hot.

Book Club party
On Saturday night some friends threw a party at Cybele’s studio for their book club called Even Books.
The book was The Dirt, the story of Mötley Crüe, so the night was suitably hedonistic.
There was a reading from the book by Septimus Caton, Rock trivia with Elmo, Guitar Hero and a performance by Chaingang.
Lots more [...]

Ladies of the Red Carpet
Here’s a few snaps i’ve taken on red carpets lately. First up is Cate Blanchett who turned up for the Sydney premiere of Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.
Next was the opening night of the Sydney Film Festival. I spent much of the time scratching my head asking the other photographers who these people were [...]

Elton John back in Sydney
The bitch was back playing in Sydney on Monday night at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. It was his 41st show at that venue, and his third tour to Sydney in the past 2 years. He must like it here.
I’m a man of pictures, not words, so read what some other people had to say of [...]

The Andrew G swirly light trick
These are some photos from Moon Bar on the rooftop of the Banyan Tree hotel in Bangkok. The effect with the lights is a simple technique that i learned from Cybele who learned it from Andrew G while shooting a party at Harry M Miller’s penthouse.
Using flash, simply set your shutter speed to about half [...]

Levity Party at Oxford Art Factory
It’s been a bit quiet here in blogland. Work has been relentless and the internet was cut off at home after the greedy corporate bastards at Telstra delivered a $3000 bill. After i was so nice as to be their poster child for photoblogging. Fuckers.
But onwards. Here’s some photos from the Levity Records christmas [...]

Good Charlotte @ Paddington Town Hall
Here’s some photos from a Good Charlotte gig at Paddington Town Hall last month. It was a special event sponsored by Motorola and Optus and broadcast on Channel V.
There were lots of snappers at the event hoping to catch a shot of the singer Joel Madden’s pregnant girlfriend Nicole Richie. I was asked to [...]

Impromptu House Party
After shooting Live Earth Sydney i arrived home on Saturday to find my housemate had some friends over. It was fairly tame until the lycra outfits came out. It inspired all sorts of dress ups and downs.

Bandits party photos
I went to Bandits for the first time last week, on its one year anniversary.
Lost Valentinos played, people danced, drank, pashed and looked fashionable.
My photos are at NowNow or here at Boudist.

This evening was the launch of the Levi’s Jeans sponsored record label Levity. The first and so far only signing, Kiwi band Cut Off Your Hands played at the event held at the National Art School.
