Previous Boudist designs

After many years with the same design and crumbling Movable Type blogging system i’ve just converted my blog to WordPress and a new template.

It’s a work in progress, the design will evolve as i customise it and add more personality. The process all happened in just a day, taking my Sunday out to convert the back-end to WordPress and iron out bugs. I’m sure there’s still more.

If you spot problems or have suggestions or feedback please let me know.

Living between teenagers in even books

A couple of weekends ago i went to Even Books 8 in a humid Surry Hills warehouse. The book being celebrated was Living Between F@cks by Cry Bloxsome.

Like other previous Even Books, there were readings, performances and drinking but they were also filming scenes to go in the feature film version of the book. Cast members Toby Schmitz, Sep Caton and April Rose Pengilly read from the book in character then proceeded to dance with abandon while Teenagers in Tokyo played.

It’s been a while between gigs for the band, they’ve been hibernating in the Blue Mountains, writing material for their album. It’s apparently all written, now they’re just working out the logistics of recording and touring again.

The next Even Books will be on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Join the facebook group to find out where and when it will be held. It’ll be a good excuse to give your Halloween costume another airing.

Sydney Laneway Festival 2009

Another year another lovely Sydney Laneway Festival.

Tame Impala on the Reiby Park stage.

Tim Fite got along swimmingly with Patience and John from The Grates

Cut Off Your Hands played one of the best shows of the day. As usual lead singer Nick spent a fair bit of time amidst the crowd.

Jay Reatard was very entertaining. At one point Jay jumped off the stage mid-song and gestured that he wanted my camera. I gave it to him and he handed me his guitar. He couldn’t work my camera and i couldn’t play his guitar so it was somewhat of a FAIL. But fun and memorable nonetheless.

As expected Girltalk and his top 40 mashup music provoked controlled mayhem.

Cut Off Your Hands over Sydney

Playing a concert on a rooftop is one of the great rock’n'roll traditions. Pioneered by The Beatles, emulated by U2, and last night continued by Cut Off Your Hands.

Playing on the roof of the AM Eyewear office building in Darlinghurst it was a farewell gig of sorts for their guitarist Mikey Ramirez. It was his last ever performance with the band before retiring to quiet married life in Auckland.

The band aren’t letting up though, starting late February they’re embarking on a North American tour playing loads of shows with Ra Ra Riot and Passion Pit.

MGMT in Sydney

Here’s some pictures from MGMT at the Hordern Pavilion on Tuesday.

Unfortunately photographers were escorted from the venue after 3 songs, so i can’t tell you what the show was like.

The first three tunes were a little lacklustre to my eyes – but according to the Time Out review they got better as the show went on.

The band sure have a strong teen girl following. The entire front row was a lather of excitable girls.

Normally i wear earplugs to protect my hearing from standing in front of the speakers. This time earplugs came in handy to counter the shrill squeels of teenagers suffering MGMT mania.

So i got an iPhone. It lives up to my very high expectations. And with Australian telco’s finally offering sensible data plans it’s relatively affordable.

As well as installing lots of apps, syncing calendars and contacts, surfing the web and listening to podcasts – i’ve been enjoying taking crappy iPhonecam photos and posting them to my twitter. It’s very easy with twitterific which integrates seamlessly with twitpic.

It makes a nice change from the pressure of taking photos with a proper camera.

Josh Pyke’s Guitar Boat

Ever heard of a Guitar Boat? Now you have, and that’s Josh Pyke skippering his very own.

It was created for the video clip for his song "Make You Happy".

Before filming one morning he boated around the water in Glebe for the press.

Some pictures from December 2007 of Operator Please that i neglected to post at the time.

These were press photos, to refresh the previous photos i did.

This time they wanted something a little more sophisticated, less young and ‘cute’.

Some shots were done in the studio, with props i hired from Mitchell Road Auction Centre. The others were taken at the auction centre, in the goods lift and auction floor.

Catcall in a supermarket

Here’s some photos i took of Catcall and Levins (aka Sleater Brockman) the other week.

As i was trying to think of locations Danny North’s Fu*ked Up photo was fresh in my mind so i thought about a supermarket. Max|m supermarket let us take over an aisle for a little while.

The two of them are over in the US playing a bunch of shows together.
