<p>A couple of weekends ago i went to <a href="http://www.evenlovershavefights.com/evenbooks/">Even Books 8</a> in a humid Surry Hills warehouse. The book being celebrated was Living Between F@cks by <a href="http://www.crybloxsome.com/">Cry Bloxsome</a>.</p>
<p><img src="http://boudist.com/images/teenagers-tokyo-4.jpg" alt="even books teenagers in tokyo" width="500" height="333" border="0" /><br />
<img src="http://boudist.com/images/teenagers-tokyo.jpg" alt="even books teenagers in tokyo" width="500" height="333" border="0" /></p>
<p>Like other previous Even Books, there were readings, performances and drinking but they were also filming scenes to go in the feature film version of the book. Cast members Toby Schmitz, Sep Caton and April Rose Pengilly read from the book in character then proceeded to dance with abandon while <a href="http://www.myspace.com/teenagersintokyo">Teenagers in Tokyo</a> played.</p>
<p><img src="http://boudist.com/images/teenagers-tokyo-5.jpg" alt="even books teenagers in tokyo" width="500" height="333" border="0" /><img src="http://boudist.com/images/teenagers-tokyo-2.jpg" alt="even books teenagers in tokyo" width="500" height="333" border="0" /></p>
<p>It&#8217;s been a while between gigs for the band, they&#8217;ve been hibernating in the Blue Mountains, writing material for their album. It&#8217;s apparently all written, now they&#8217;re just working out the logistics of recording and touring again. </p>
<p><img src="http://boudist.com/images/teenagers-tokyo-3.jpg" alt="even books teenagers in tokyo" width="500" height="333" border="0" /><br />
<img src="http://boudist.com/images/teenagers-tokyo-9.jpg" alt="even books teenagers in tokyo" width="500" height="333" border="0" /><img src="http://boudist.com/images/teenagers-tokyo-6.jpg" alt="even books teenagers in tokyo" width="500" height="333" border="0" /></p>
<p>The next Even Books will be on Bram Stoker&#8217;s Dracula. Join <a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21168345470">the facebook group</a> to find out where and when it will be held. It&#8217;ll be a good excuse to give your Halloween costume another airing.</p>

<p>Cut Off Your Hands played one of the best shows of the day. As usual lead singer Nick spent a fair bit of time amidst the crowd.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.boudist.com/gallery/v/gigs/laneway-festival-2009/"><img src="http://boudist.com/images/Jay-Reatard-077.jpg" alt="jay reatard bassist" width="500" height="333" border="0" /></a><br />

<p>Jay Reatard was very entertaining. At one point Jay jumped off the stage mid-song and gestured that he wanted my camera. I gave it to him and he handed me his guitar. He couldn&#8217;t work my camera and i couldn&#8217;t play his guitar so it was somewhat of a FAIL. But fun and memorable nonetheless.</p>

<p>As expected Girltalk and his top 40 mashup music provoked controlled mayhem.</p>

<p>Playing a concert on a rooftop is one of the great rock&#8217;n'roll traditions. Pioneered by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea6ZcfJspcI">The Beatles</a>, emulated by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpVbLm4TN3g">U2</a>, and last night continued by <a href="http://www.myspace.com/cutoffyourhands">Cut Off Your Hands</a>.</p>
<p><img src="http://boudist.com/images/cut-off-your-hands-rooftop-2.jpg" alt="CUT Off Your Hands" width="500" height="333" /></p>
<p>Playing on the roof of the <a href="http://www.ameyewear.com/">AM Eyewear</a> office building in Darlinghurst it was a farewell gig of sorts for their guitarist <a href="http://www.moleskindrawings.blogspot.com/">Mikey Ramirez</a>. It was his last ever performance with the band before retiring to quiet married life in Auckland.</p>
<p><img src="http://boudist.com/images/cut-off-your-hands-rooftop-4.jpg" alt="Cut Off Your Hands" width="500" height="333" /><img src="http://boudist.com/images/cut-off-your-hands-rooftop-6.jpg" alt="Cut Off Your Hands" width="500" height="333" /></p>
<p>The band aren&#8217;t letting up though, starting late February they&#8217;re embarking on a North American tour playing loads of shows with <a href="http://www.myspace.com/rarariot">Ra Ra Riot</a> and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/passionpitjams">Passion Pit</a>.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s some pictures from <a href="http://boudist.com/gallery/v/gigs/mgmt/">MGMT at the Hordern Pavilion</a> on Tuesday.</p>
<p><a href="http://boudist.com/gallery/v/gigs/mgmt/"><img src="http://boudist.com/images/mgmt--5.jpg" alt="MGMT" width="500" height="333" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>Unfortunately photographers were escorted from the venue after 3 songs, so i can&#8217;t tell you what the show was like. </p>
<p>The first three tunes were a little lacklustre to my eyes &#8211; but according to <a href="http://www.timeoutsydney.com.au/music/gigreviews/mgmt-review.aspx?DCMP=OTC-TOSyd-DBLOG">the Time Out review</a> they got better as the show went on.</p>
<p><img src="http://boudist.com/images/mgmt--3.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="MGMT" /><img src="http://boudist.com/images/mgmt--1.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="MGMT" /></p>
<p>The band sure have a strong teen girl following. The entire front row was a lather of excitable girls. </p>
<p>Normally i wear earplugs to protect my hearing from standing in front of the speakers. This time earplugs came in handy to counter the shrill squeels of teenagers suffering MGMT mania.</p>
<p><img src="http://boudist.com/images/mgmt--2.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="MGMT" /><br />
<img src="http://boudist.com/images/mgmt--4.jpg" width="500" height="750" alt="MGMT" /><br />

<p>So i got an iPhone. It lives up to my very high expectations. And with Australian telco&#8217;s finally offering <a href="http://virginmobile.com.au/rates/apple_iphone_cap_plan.html?campaign=86">sensible data plans</a> it&#8217;s relatively affordable.</p>
<p>As well as installing lots of apps, syncing calendars and contacts, surfing the web and listening to podcasts &#8211; i&#8217;ve been enjoying taking crappy iPhonecam photos and posting them to <a href="http://twitter.com/dreadfuldan">my twitter</a>. It&#8217;s very easy with <a href="http://iconfactory.com/software/twitterrific">twitterific</a> which integrates seamlessly with <a href="http://twitpic.com/">twitpic</a>.</p>
<p>It makes a nice change from the pressure of taking photos with a proper camera.</p>
