The Bravery. You can watch this gig at MSN and see more of my pics.

Now the final part of my SXSW photos.

On day 3 we have The Aussie BBQ, Airbourne, Beasts of Bourbon, The Good The Bad and The Queen, The Bravery, Saul Williams, Mink, The Horrors and Perry Farrell.

On day 4 we have Iggy Pop, Paolo Nutini, Malajube, Tokyo Police Club and Tom Morello. I was totally exhausted by day 4 so didn’t take as many pictures as other nights.

Iggy Pop, man of the people.

It was amazing seeing Iggy Pop again, but i was gutted i didn’t make it into the photo pit. There’s so many accredited photographers
at SXSW that they don’t all fit in the pit for the popular shows. So i watched from the crowd and snapped some shots from there. Danny North, Kris Krug and Chad Wadsworth were all in the pit and got some great shots.

Canadian band Malajube.

If you can’t tell from the pictures, i had a stellar time at SXSW. Austin is a great city, i hung out with awesome people, saw great bands and took pictures the whole time. Twas the good life.

If you consider that i saw just a tiny fraction of the bands who were playing on those days it gives you an idea of the breadth of acts on show at SXSW. Well over 1000 come to Austin for the four days.

As usual Airborne put on a great show to a packed out crowd. There were quite a few locals headbanging along – and Joel did his usual thing of jumping on the bar and playing his guitar along it.

I didn’t manage to catch Dallas Crane play but i did see them at an Aussie get together with free drinks.

This was Youth Group at a great open air venue on Cedar St. They’re quite popular over here and played a number of well received shows.

Spod and Andy Clockwise cutting sick at the Aussie BBQ.

Macromantics among the crowd at a daytime gig. I can spot Travis Bigstereo in the background of this shot.

Josh Pyke was actually in a much better mood than this photo would suggest. He’d just found out his album had debuted at number 4 in the ARIA chart.

Children Collide played a great gig on the opening night.

I’d never seen Mink before but was impressed. They’ve got an ex INXS Rockstar contestant on vocals and he’s got all the rock moves down.

The Presets pulled a big crowd on the Beauty Bar patio. They seem to have a lot of local fans after a number of US tours.

My faves Expatriate played before Children Collide on the opening night at Red 7.

It’s the last proper day of the festival today. Although it’s exhausting it’s also loads of fun, so i’ll miss it when it’s over.

I’m now nearing the end of SXSW interactive in Austin, having also spent a few marvellous days enjoying San Francisco.

SXSW interactive is a conference of web geeks like me – people who understand the need to hop online every few hours, to check Flickr, email and twitter. People who come home from a night out and hop on their MacBook’s to geek out and look at youtube videos.

That said these folks sure like to party, at this conference the parties are more talked about and attended than the actual conference panels. People hop from party to party, enjoying the free booze, entertainment and shwag.

I’ve met up with a bunch of assorted pals from Australia, the US and the UK. I like it here, though my liver is already getting pickled and the music festival hasn’t even started yet.

I’ve been posting photos to Flickr and have been photographed by two folks that work for Flickr, George and Cal.

They’re very good, live and on record – i played their EP endlessly after i got it last year. The international tour seems to have given them more vigor, with Ben the singer venturing into the crowd at times, and generally being a more expressive, charismatic frontman than i’d seen before. They’re soon to go on tour supporting Simple Minds which is a pretty good match up with their synthy anthems.

I’ve been busy attending SXSW Interactive panel sessions, talking to people, taking photos, drinking beer and eating Mexican. I’ve tried to blog the panel sessions but haven’t found the words. Plenty of notes have been taken and most of the speakers are putting their presentations online so i’ll compile everything together at some point.

One of the highlights of today was seeing Malcolm Gladwell talk. He’s the author of The Tipping Point and his newie Blink. He’s a great speaker and told some eye opening anecdotes about the snap judgements people make of others. I bought The Tipping Point to read in Sydney airport and Malcolm was kind enough to sign my dog eared paperback copy.

I’ve spotted many a blogger i know around and about and have talked to several. I still haven’t gathered the balls to say hi to Jason Kottke but i will at some point. I figure i gave him $30 to be a micropatron he owes me a minute or two to say hi to an aficionado from Australia. I own his ass.

I’ve also spotted Dunstan Orchard about but haven’t yet found a moment to say hi. I ought to thank him for the nice photo drop shadow technique i use here on Boudist.

I’ve seen Zeldman all over the place but i don’t think i’ll say hi. He’s like my total web design guru, but he scares me and i got nothing to say.

I met Andy Budd briefly and he mistook me for Daniel Bogan. Oh the hilarity!

If you’re not a web nerd you’ll probably have no idea who those folks are, but in my circles they’re like the internet rock stars. Fear not normal music loving people, in the next few days SXSW Music starts and it’ll be all rock rock rock and hangovers.

I actually bumped into Craig New from Sydney wandering round the convention centre. I took him to dinner with a big bunch of bloggers. The poor poor man.

I’ve posted a bunch of my photos up on Flickr in my photostream if you’re at all interested in seeing what i’ve been snapping with my snazzy new camera.

Tomorrow is the Bloggies ceremony so fingers crossed for that.
