I saw Jamie T performing solo at Candy’s Apartment last week. It was an ‘intimate’ gig at a smaller venue than he could have played. The intimacy was a little shattered by the raucus Brit’s in the audience chanting and singing along. But it all added to the atmosphere and made for some good audience sing-along moments.

Jamie T opened his set with a cover of Billy Bragg’s A New England (mp3, not sure where this was recorded).

My mate Bobby reviewed the show for Drum.

I also saw Jamie T in full band mode at SXSW, which was quite a different experience. He’s entertaining in either capacity.

Looks like he’s fond of that lumberjack shirt of his.

I saw Wolfmother back in May at the same venue, in front of about 30 people including the band’s mothers (it was mother’s day, they dedicated the song Woman to their mum’s, so charming). It was quite a contrast to the heaving sold out crowd of 5 months later. Since that show, which was their third ever, the band have signed a record deal, they’ve toured Australia and briefly the US, their songs are flogged on the radio and they’re officially ‘the next big thing’.

The support act was also awesome. They’re called Wolfmother, they’re a bunch of local lads with a big 70′s rock sound. Think Black Sabbath, mixed with Led Zeppelin with the occasional bit of psychedelic organ. Keep an eye out for ‘em.
