Sound Relief Sydney

Sound Relief Sydney

My Saturday was spent at Sound Relief Sydney, snapping pictures, getting rained on and revelling in nostalgia.
The concert was held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in tandem with another concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with all proceeds going to benefit victims of the recent Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods.

The highlight of the whole day [...]

Pressed against the barrier

Here’s a bunch of photos of the crowd from Splendour in the Grass.

I’ve got a lot of admiration for these kids that manage to squeeze themselves right to the front of the barrier at a music festival.
You’ve got to deal with hours of waiting, dehydration, not eating, not going to the loo, sweaty people, [...]

Come Together Festival at Luna Park

It’s been a while between shooting gigs for me, but i was back on the game on Saturday at the Come Together Festival at Luna Park. It was a good chance to catch up with a bunch of local bands and see the new upstarts.

Bluejuice seemed to have the best crowd reaction all day. People [...]

Smashing Pumpkins fans

They’re a devoted lot.

Big Day Out : the crowd

When shooting a music festival it’s sometimes more fun capturing the atmosphere and punters of the event rather than the acts on stage.
I love shooting people who are unselfconsciously wrapped up in their own emotions, much like the folks above enjoying Arcade Fire.

At the Big Day Out there’s also the flag waving displays of nationalism [...]

Live Earth Sydney : The Crowd

Here’s some photos of Live Earth in Sydney last weekend. This lot is of the crowd.
At a show of this size it’s all about the crowd. There’s nothing like singing "Weather With You" with 45000 people.

The Great Escape – Day 2

Day 2 of the Great Escape Festival saw a bit of rain, but it didn’t dampen people’s spirits.

On the main stage Little Birdy entertained in the afternoon, Ziggy Marley played the dusk set and John Butler Trio headlined.

In one of the food tents this fella played the bazouki to a techno [...]

Splendour photos: The People, The Mud

The people – the life of any festival.
This is the final installment of my Splendour in the Grass photos.
About a dozen of my shots were in Drum this week to accompany their Splendour review, but it’s nice to be able to share the whole lot of them here.

The mud was everywhere. I didn’t take [...]

Expatriate Homecoming

I saw Expatriate play at Sydney Uni’s Manning Bar on Thursday. After a whirlwind tour of London, Toronto, Austin, New York and LA they were back playing with confidence to a warm home town crowd.

They’re very good, live and on record – i played their EP endlessly after i got it last year. The [...]

Homebake 2005 Photos

My photos from Homebake are now online (also available at 3DWorld). It was a wonderful day out, perfect weather, people and music. Plus i spent all day taking photos. Doesn’t get much better than that.
The shots aren’t my best work. It was my first time shooting a big festival, with high stages to contend with, [...]
