Big Day Out Sydney 2012

Another Australia Day, another trip out to Homebush for the Big Day Out. Like my first time photographing Big Day Out back in 2006 i was shooting pictures for SPIN.
Homebake 2011

I almost skipped posting these, but i’ve got 6 years of photographing Homebake here, so i ought to keep up the tradition. It’s also the first music festival i ever photographed so i have a soft spot for it.
VIVID Live photos

It’s been almost a week since it wrapped up but i’ve just found a moment to come up for air to blog some Vivid Live photos. I was shooting for the Sydney Opera House and some days felt like i had the best job in the world. Going to work each night at the magnificently [...]
Sydney Writer’s Festival photos

I’m more known for photographing festivals of the musical variety so it was somewhat of a change of pace shooting Sydney Writer’s Festival the other week. It was a very civilised affair, meandering between the wharves at Walsh Bay, enjoying superb Sydney sunshine and listening to snippets of writer’s discuss their work.
Big Day Out Sydney 2011
Here’s some of my snaps of the Sydney Big Day Out last Thursday. I spent the bulk of my time backstage shooting portraits for FasterLouder but ducked out a few times to catch some performances for Time Out. Like five years ago when Iggy Pop’s performance blew my mind at the 2006 Big Day Out, [...]
Splendour Studio – Day 2

By day two of the FasterLouder Splendour Studio i’d just about lost my voice. The combination of festival dust, tiredness and a day of barking instructions took it out of me. So i hoarsley rasped my way through the following days, prodding musicians to do this and that. Here’s my photos from day 2 featuring [...]
Splendour Studio – Day 1

At Splendour in the Grass i had one of the best assignments i’ve ever had – shooting backstage portraits of the bands and artists playing at the festival for FasterLouder. FasterLouder had a tent in the media compound backstage that i set up with a white paper roll and some studio lights (with help from [...]
Vivid 2010 recap
After posting some other photos of Vivid Sydney events like the lighting of the Opera House sails, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson’s press conference, the concert for dogs, and Creative Sydney, here’s some other photos from my time shooting Vivid Live for the Opera House.
Sydney Festival 2010
I love Sydney in January. There’s that post-holiday glow that still remains, the exceptional beach weather (between torrential downpours), and then there’s the festivals and gigs. One of the great pleasures of my job is getting to photograph those festivals, the biggest and most diverse of which is Sydney Festival. I love it because i [...]
Laneway Festival Sydney 2010

Here’s my snaps from the Laneway Festival on the weekend. It was pretty exceptional; a fantastic line-up, a well mannered and good looking crowd, and a new more spacious venue in an ex-mental asylum.
Homebake 2009
Here’s my photos from the Homebake festival on Saturday. Lovely day out as usual, and this year marked the fifth time i’ve photographed Homebake. It was the first festival i ever photographed with proper accreditation. Thanks Sonia for sorting out that pass all those years ago. For old times sake, here’s Tumbleweed playing Hang Around [...]
Sydney Festival 2009 in photos
A month late, but here’s the final lot of my photos from Sydney Festival. First up is Festival First Night, featuring Grace Jones, Santogold (before she became Santigold) and Busy P DJing plus loads more i didn’t see. It’s always one of the highlights of the festival; it’s free and takes over the city with [...]
Sydney Laneway Festival 2009
Another year another lovely Sydney Laneway Festival. Tame Impala on the Reiby Park stage. Tim Fite got along swimmingly with Patience and John from The Grates Cut Off Your Hands played one of the best shows of the day. As usual lead singer Nick spent a fair bit of time amidst the crowd. Jay Reatard [...]
Sydney Big Day Out 2009
I had a bit of a shocker at the Big Day Out. After shooting Children Collide i dropped my 70-200 lens onto the grass. I didn’t think much of it at the time but about half an hour later i noticed it wasn’t working. Whenever i attached it to my camera it went haywire and [...]
All Tomorrow’s Parties in Sydney
For years i’ve envied other cities around the world that hosted the All Tomorrows Parties festival. Created 10 years ago by an english chap named Barry Hogan he describes the festival as, "…kind of like an anti-festival. We want to have drinks at reasonable prices, decent bands playing a lot of sets, free programs and [...]
Nevereverland Sydney photos
Last Saturday saw Modular‘s Nevereverland tour kick off in Sydney at the Hordern Pavilion. The show was a bit of a showcase for Modular acts like The Presets, Klaxons, Cut Copy, Ladyhawke, Bumblebeez and Van She. Invited international guests were geek Berliners The Whitest Boy Alive and disco queens Hercules and the Love Affair. The [...]
Homebake 2008
On a sweltering Saturday last week Homebake rolled round again, taking over Sydney’s Domain. The visual highlight was surely Nick Littlemore’s dramatic entrance for Pnau’s set. Hoisted angelically into the rafters to sing their opening song Wild Strawberries, it was a superbly Spinal Tap moment. In a hark back to 2005 when the Finn brothers [...]
16th Biennale of Sydney photos
Last week i had a tour of some of the works which form the Biennale of Sydney. Covering several venues, most notably Cockatoo Island, there’s over 180 works to see from now until the 7th September. Above is Jill McKay, who along with three other ladies aged 80-plus continuously perform ‘God Save the Queen’ by [...]
Come Together Festival at Luna Park
It’s been a while between shooting gigs for me, but i was back on the game on Saturday at the Come Together Festival at Luna Park. It was a good chance to catch up with a bunch of local bands and see the new upstarts. Bluejuice seemed to have the best crowd reaction all day. [...]
V Festival Sydney 2008
Here’s my photos from the V Festival in Sydney last weekend. It’s quite a civilised festival as far as these things go. Not overcrowded, just three stages, not too many timetable clashes, great setting, good bands and a mix of young and old punters. I was a Smashing Pumpkins fan back in the day, first [...]
Laneway Festival Sydney 2008
The rather splendid Laneway Festival rolled around again this weekend past. I was fresh off the plane from Thailand and flung forth into the throngs of indie kids partying in the heart of the city. Some of the acts performing included Feist, The Presets, Bridezilla, Dan Deacon, Stars and Cool Kids. You can see all [...]
