Laneway Festival Sydney 2010

Laneway Festival Sydney 2010

Here’s my snaps from the Laneway Festival on the weekend. It was pretty exceptional; a fantastic line-up, a well mannered and good looking crowd, and a new more spacious venue in an ex-mental asylum.

Big Day Out 2010

Big Day Out 2010

Here’s some of my happy snaps from Sydney’s Big Day Out on Saturday.

Homebake 2009

Homebake 2009

Here’s my photos from the Homebake festival on Saturday.
Lovely day out as usual, and this year marked the fifth time i’ve photographed Homebake.
It was the first festival i ever photographed with proper accreditation. Thanks Sonia for sorting out that pass all those years ago.

For old times sake, here’s Tumbleweed playing Hang Around on Denton circa [...]

Sound Relief Sydney

Sound Relief Sydney

My Saturday was spent at Sound Relief Sydney, snapping pictures, getting rained on and revelling in nostalgia.
The concert was held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in tandem with another concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with all proceeds going to benefit victims of the recent Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods.

The highlight of the whole day [...]

Sydney Festival 2009 in photos

A month late, but here’s the final lot of my photos from Sydney Festival.

First up is Festival First Night, featuring Grace Jones, Santogold (before she became Santigold) and Busy P DJing plus loads more i didn’t see. It’s always one of the highlights of the festival; it’s free and takes over the city with [...]

Sydney Laneway Festival 2009

Another year another lovely Sydney Laneway Festival.

Tame Impala on the Reiby Park stage.

Tim Fite got along swimmingly with Patience and John from The Grates

Cut Off Your Hands played one of the best shows of the day. As usual lead singer Nick spent a fair bit of time amidst the crowd.

Jay Reatard was [...]

Sydney Big Day Out 2009

I had a bit of a shocker at the Big Day Out. After shooting Children Collide i dropped my 70-200 lens onto the grass. I didn’t think much of it at the time but about half an hour later i noticed it wasn’t working. Whenever i attached it to my camera it went haywire and [...]

All Tomorrow’s Parties in Sydney

For years i’ve envied other cities around the world that hosted the All Tomorrows Parties festival. Created 10 years ago by an english chap named Barry Hogan he describes the festival as,

"…kind of like an anti-festival. We want to have drinks at reasonable prices, decent bands playing a lot of sets, free programs and [...]

Nevereverland Sydney photos

Last Saturday saw Modular’s Nevereverland tour kick off in Sydney at the Hordern Pavilion.
The show was a bit of a showcase for Modular acts like The Presets, Klaxons, Cut Copy, Ladyhawke, Bumblebeez and Van She. Invited international guests were geek Berliners The Whitest Boy Alive and disco queens Hercules and the Love Affair.
The day was [...]

Homebake 2008

On a sweltering Saturday last week Homebake rolled round again, taking over Sydney’s Domain.

The visual highlight was surely Nick Littlemore’s dramatic entrance for Pnau’s set.
Hoisted angelically into the rafters to sing their opening song Wild Strawberries, it was a superbly Spinal Tap moment.

In a hark back to 2005 when the Finn brothers headlined Homebake, Crowded [...]

Biennale of Sydney photos

Last week i had a tour of some of the works which form the Biennale of Sydney. Covering several venues, most notably Cockatoo Island, there’s over 180 works to see from now until the 7th September.
Above is Jill McKay, who along with three other ladies aged 80-plus continuously perform ‘God Save the Queen’ by the [...]

Come Together Festival at Luna Park

It’s been a while between shooting gigs for me, but i was back on the game on Saturday at the Come Together Festival at Luna Park. It was a good chance to catch up with a bunch of local bands and see the new upstarts.

Bluejuice seemed to have the best crowd reaction all day. People [...]

V Festival Sydney 2008

Here’s my photos from the V Festival in Sydney last weekend.
It’s quite a civilised festival as far as these things go. Not overcrowded, just three stages, not too many timetable clashes, great setting, good bands and a mix of young and old punters.

I was a Smashing Pumpkins fan back in the day, first seeing them [...]

Laneway Festival Sydney 2008

The rather splendid Laneway Festival rolled around again this weekend past. I was fresh off the plane from Thailand and flung forth into the throngs of indie kids partying in the heart of the city.

Some of the acts performing included Feist, The Presets, Bridezilla, Dan Deacon, Stars and Cool Kids.

You can see all my shots [...]

Homebake 2007 photos

Here’s some photos from Homebake 2007. The day was headlined by the Divinyls on the main stage and Pnau on the Dome stage. Both acts put on fantastic sets, which was a surprising since they’ve both been off the performing circuit for a while. Chrissie Amphlett still has all the moves as a frontwoman [...]

Legs 11 Concert

Here’s some photos from the Legs 11 concert held a couple of weeks ago in the domain.

It’s a lovely civilised affair held in the park in the shadow of the city. Acts on the bill included Missy Higgins, The Waifs, Paul Kelly, Blue King Brown and Nathan from Faker playing an acoustic set. Also [...]

Live Earth Sydney : The Artists

Apart from a couple of acts i thought the lineup of Live Earth was rather underwhelming. Crowded House were an obvious highlight and had the entire stadium in the palm of their hand. It felt a bit like a homecoming as it was in Sydney they played the supposed farewell concert 10 years ago on [...]

Live Earth Sydney : The Crowd

Here’s some photos of Live Earth in Sydney last weekend. This lot is of the crowd.
At a show of this size it’s all about the crowd. There’s nothing like singing "Weather With You" with 45000 people.

The Great Escape Festival – Day 3

Day 3 of the Great Escape was when i finally got to go up in the helicopter. It had been postponed for two days because of the weather, but it cleared up enough to do the trip on the final day. It was still pretty miserable weather but loads of fun.

One of the highlights [...]

The Great Escape Hay Fight

Deserving of it’s own post from the Great Escape was the hay fight on day 2. Because of the wet, organisers trucked in extra hay bales to soak up the mud. After John Butler finished his set on the main stage the crowd stuck around down the front, hurling hay into the air and at [...]

The Great Escape – Day 2

Day 2 of the Great Escape Festival saw a bit of rain, but it didn’t dampen people’s spirits.

On the main stage Little Birdy entertained in the afternoon, Ziggy Marley played the dusk set and John Butler Trio headlined.

In one of the food tents this fella played the bazouki to a techno [...]

The Great Escape – Day 1

As i wrote previously, i was the official photographer for The Great Escape Festival two weeks ago. It was so much fun – both the festival itself and the job of taking photos.
It’s a three day festival, which makes for lots of photos. First up is pictures from Day 1.

The Vines were a popular [...]

Some Splendour festival photos

I’m back from Byron after a lovely week in the sun and rain. Splendour was as great as expected, so many good acts and good people to spend time with. Despite the mud, which claimed my only pair of shoes, the weather was actually quite good over the weekend, with hardly any rain.

I took [...]

Mudvayne, Wolfmother, et al

The metal fans in the audience went nuts when Mudvayne took the stage. Most intense mosh all day.

Wolfmother were also in fine form and seem to have become rather massive. Walking around the crowd the band tshirt of choice was definitely theirs.
Have a look in the gallery for more photos of [...]
