Sydney bands The Valentinos and The Ghosts have announced their name changes this week. They’re now respectively titled Lost Valentinos and Ghostwood.

I wonder if other local acts like Teenager, The Cops and Ladyhawke are considering name changes in light of their international namesakes? (The Teenagers, The Cops, Ladyhawk)

The Ghosts are the latest Sydney band to create some serious buzz in the local scene. It was about time i saw them for myself so i headed out to see them play at Melt in Kings Cross for the re-launch of party night Boobytrap on Friday.

Thankfully The Ghosts live up to the hype. The one demo song available on their myspace doesn’t really do them justice, but they put on an energetic show with an 80′s guitar sound similar to other locals Mercy Arms.

Rumours have the band being courted by Modular, i don’t know if anything’s signed yet, but they are due to play the Modular Christmas party alongside Klaxons and New Young Pony Club. Last year’s Modular Christmas party featured Wolfmother, The Presets, Cut Copy and Van She, so it’s usually a pretty good indicator of what’s going to be hot in the coming year.
