As i brushed my teeth this morning i spotted this fresh graffiti out the window, "HELLO LANFRANCHIS".

I live in a warehouse space in Chippendale, commonly known as Lanfranchi’s for the "artist-run performance space" upstairs. It’s been going since 2002 under that name and has had many previous lives as a fairly bohemian living and performance space.

The name Lanfranchi’s comes from Warren Lanfranchi, who was murdered in the back alley (now graffitied with his name) behind the warehouse in the 80′s. That murder was made famous in the mini-series Blue Murder, which pinned the crime on notorious crooked cop Roger Rogerson.

But Lanfranchi’s and the warehouse is coming to an end. All 5 spaces, housing about 30 people have been served an eviction notice. They’re turning the place into a backpacker hostel to sleep over 300. So we’re packing up and saying goodbye to one of the last affordable, unrenovated warehouses left in the inner city.
