Breakfast on the Bridge

6000 Sydneysiders walked onto a grass covered Sydney Harbour Bridge yesterday morning for the first ever Breakfast on the Bridge.
Real grass turf was rolled out from pylon to pylon to cover the length of the bridge and provide a soft spot to picnic.
The grass, the people, the cows and lack of cars made for a [...]
Sydney’s Apocalyptic Red Dawn

Like all Sydneysiders i awoke this morning to the most intense red glow beaming into my bedroom window.
A quick look out the window then a look online confirmed that a dust storm of epic proportions had enveloped Sydney.
While the comfort of bed tempted me, the photographer in me decided to head out the door and [...]
Brian Eno launches Luminous

This morning Brian Eno launched his music festival Luminous with a press conference at the Sydney Opera House.
As well as curating the music, he’s got an artwork on display in the Studio at the Opera House called 77 Million Paintings.
Starting at 6pm tonight his artwork will also be projected onto the sails of the Sydney [...]
Smart Light Sydney

There’s a festival of events starting in Sydney this week called Vivid Sydney.
It includes:
Luminous, a music festival curated by Brian Eno
Fire Water, a firey spectacle on Sydney Harbour
Creative Sydney, a series of workshops and performances from the creative industries
Smart Light Sydney, a series of light installations around Circular Quay and The Rocks
It’s a bit like [...]
Sydney Festival 2009 in photos
A month late, but here’s the final lot of my photos from Sydney Festival.
First up is Festival First Night, featuring Grace Jones, Santogold (before she became Santigold) and Busy P DJing plus loads more i didn’t see. It’s always one of the highlights of the festival; it’s free and takes over the city with [...]
All Tomorrow’s Parties in Sydney
For years i’ve envied other cities around the world that hosted the All Tomorrows Parties festival. Created 10 years ago by an english chap named Barry Hogan he describes the festival as,
"…kind of like an anti-festival. We want to have drinks at reasonable prices, decent bands playing a lot of sets, free programs and [...]

Sydney’s best coffee
I spent last week drinking lots of very good coffee while shooting Time Out’s feature on Sydney’s best coffee.
The cover shot is a snap i took quickly by a window at Campos last year.
Bertoni in Balmain was baby central. In fact all of Balmain appeared overrun with newborns. The streets congested with [...]
Biennale of Sydney photos
Last week i had a tour of some of the works which form the Biennale of Sydney. Covering several venues, most notably Cockatoo Island, there’s over 180 works to see from now until the 7th September.
Above is Jill McKay, who along with three other ladies aged 80-plus continuously perform ‘God Save the Queen’ by the [...]
A small part of Aboriginal Sydney
A few weeks back Time Out Sydney published an indigenous themed issue timed for Reconciliation Week. I photographed some of the people and places we were profiling.
Above is Uncle Max Eulo who’s commonly known for the smoking ceremony he performs as a welcome to Sydney. I ventured out with him on the Tribal Warrior early [...]
Sydney Apple Store opens to the public
There were hundreds if not thousands of people snaked in a queue around the city to enter the Sydney Apple Store this evening.
It got very squishy indeed along George Street as the doors opened, not so much from the people in the queue who were kept orderly, but by the rubberneckers looking on in bemusement [...]
Apple Store opens in Sydney
This morning Apple opened the doors to the media at their first Apple Store in Sydney. The official opening is tomorrow evening at 5pm.
I’m not usually one to be excited by a shop opening, but being an unabashed mac aficionado and given the striking shop design it’s hard not to get caught up in [...]
Youth Group launch The Night is Ours
Last Wednesday night, just after a storm ripped through Sydney, Youth Group played a show on the deck of a boat to launch their new album The Night is Ours.
The boat was the Cape Don, permanently moored at Balls Head next to where Youth Group recorded the new album. I took some [...]
Tank Stream Tour
The other week i was lucky enough to attend a tour of the Tank Stream for Time Out. It’s a tough tour to get on, they only happen every 6 months with thousands applying and only one hundred or so being chosen at random.
The Tank Stream is the reason Sydney was colonised where it [...]
Sorry speech
Thousands of Sydneysiders braved the rain this morning to witness a live broadcast from Canberra of Prime Minister Rudd apologising to the Stolen Generations.
Martin Place was filled with people from all walks of life, toting their umbrellas and filled with emotion. The end of the speech was met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation.
It [...]
Sydney Laneway Festival 2006
It seems the unanimous opinion that the inaugural Sydney Laneway Festival was a raging success.
I’m already late posting my photos (i’ve been sick – woe is me, etc…) so i’ll skip the commentary and just link to my gallery of photos from the Laneway Festival in Sydney. There’s shots of Les Savy Fav, The Gossip, [...]
