Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother

Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother

Having photographed Wolfmother countless times onstage it was nice to get the opportunity to photograph frontman Andrew Stockdale face to face.
It was for a feature in Time Out Sydney on various Modular artists.

The shots on white were taken at my place with an idea for a composite cover with other artists. That didn’t end up [...]

Wolfmother lays their Cosmic Egg

Wolfmother lays their Cosmic Egg

Wolfmother II played a free outdoor concert at the Entertainment Quarter (always Fox Studios to me) last Friday for Take 40 Live and Guitar Hero 5.

It was good to shoot them on a relatively small stage for a change, not the festival stages they primarily grace these days.
With TV lighting, an enthusiastic crowd and a [...]

MTV Australia Awards 2009 : The Performances

MTV Australia Awards 2009 : The Performances

A couple of weekends ago i was part of the crew from Blue Murder Studios photographing the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards for MTV.
It’s a good gig to get because it’s much better access than the usual red carpet and media room frenzy. I thankfully managed to avoid both those places.
It means getting [...]

Sound Relief Sydney

Sound Relief Sydney

My Saturday was spent at Sound Relief Sydney, snapping pictures, getting rained on and revelling in nostalgia.
The concert was held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in tandem with another concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with all proceeds going to benefit victims of the recent Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods.

The highlight of the whole day [...]

Wolfmother to continue with new line up

As an update to Tuesdays post speculating on the future of Wolfmother – official word just came through in the form of a press release.

The band will continue with Andrew Stockdale, but lose drummer Myles Heskett and bass/keyboard player Chris Ross.

Press release from Universal cut and pasted below:

Myles Heskett and Chris Ross to Depart [...]

Wolfmother at Splendour

Last show ever? That’s if you believe the rumours.

Their headlining Splendour show was excellent and the crowd loved it. But one can’t help but feel they’re treading water, playing much the same set as when they played Splendour two years ago. And the same songs as when they played at Candy’s Apartment over 4 years [...]

Live Earth Sydney : The Artists

Apart from a couple of acts i thought the lineup of Live Earth was rather underwhelming. Crowded House were an obvious highlight and had the entire stadium in the palm of their hand. It felt a bit like a homecoming as it was in Sydney they played the supposed farewell concert 10 years ago on [...]

Jack Awards photos

I photographed The Jack Awards at Luna Park on Tuesday night.

It’s the annual Jack Daniel’s sponsored music industry piss up, with some awards given out and artist performances in between. Always lots of fun.
You can see my shots in the Jack Awards 2007 photo gallery.

The winners were:

Best Live Band: Wolfmother
Best Male Performer: Daniel Johns [...]

The Great Escape – Day 1

As i wrote previously, i was the official photographer for The Great Escape Festival two weeks ago. It was so much fun – both the festival itself and the job of taking photos.
It’s a three day festival, which makes for lots of photos. First up is pictures from Day 1.

The Vines were a popular [...]

Wolfmother wins a Grammy

Wolfmother won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance the other day.

That’s pretty wild that the little band i watched rise the ranks of the Sydney music scene beat acts like Tool and Nine Inch Nails for a Grammy.

I’ve written about Wolfmother a lot on my blog, from the first time i saw them [...]

Splendour photos: Scissor Sisters, Wolfmother, Gerling

More photos of Scissor Sisters, Wolfmother, Gerling and Brian Wilson.

That’s my last batch of artist photos – how good was the lineup!

Wolfmother Magazine Cover Photo

Look who scored the cover photo for this months Guitarist Australia magazine!
Here’s my original photo, from a gig Wolfmother played in Bondi in December last year.

Interestingly enough, that photo is ranked the number one most interesting photo for the tag ‘wolfmother’ in Flickr.
Inside Guitarist Australia there’s another two full page [...]

Mudvayne, Wolfmother, et al

The metal fans in the audience went nuts when Mudvayne took the stage. Most intense mosh all day.

Wolfmother were also in fine form and seem to have become rather massive. Walking around the crowd the band tshirt of choice was definitely theirs.
Have a look in the gallery for more photos of [...]

Hottest 100 @ The Big Day Out

So i shot the Big Day Out yesterday and it was as awesome as i was expecting. My body is somewhat broken after lugging a heavy camera and gear for almost 12 hours in the heat. But it was well worth it.
I haven’t sorted through my music photos yet, but here’s a few from the [...]

Modular Party in Bondi

I braved the road blocks and bad beach vibes to head to Bondi on Sunday arvo for a Modular records party. It featured their major acts: Wolfmother, Cut Copy, The Presets, Van She and the Avalanches (still in DJ mode).
In a fashion i’ve come to expect Wolfmother were head-bangingly brilliant and Cut Copy were bootyshakingly [...]

Wolfmother and The Mess Hall and me

On mothers day last year i saw a band i’d never heard of called Wolfmother play to a very sparse crowd at Candy’s Apartment. Last night, a year and a half later i saw Wolfmother conquer a sold out and rapturous home crowd at the first of their two shows at The Metro. They were [...]

Wolfmother in London

I saw Wolfmother play at Cargo on Friday night and they were as great as i’ve come to expect. The place was crawling with Australians and i bumped into heaps of people i knew. It was like a night out in Sydney.
I took some live shots and social stuff.

Wolfmother strikes again

I saw the mighty mighty Wolfmother again on Sunday. They played a gig at the Bondi Hotel, a venue which has sensibly changed their door policy regarding thongs since i frequented last. As per usual Wolfmother totally ripped it up. You can tell they love what they do. Very nice lads too, no pretense. And [...]

Wolfmother at Candy’s the other week

The wailing vocals and big fuzzy 70’s rock sound that this threesome of unassuming lads emit is staggering.
I saw Wolfmother back in May at the same venue, in front of about 30 people including the band’s mothers (it was mother’s day, they dedicated the song Woman to their mum’s, so charming). It was [...]

Death From Above & Wolfmother

Hard, fast, loud, furious, short, sweet, sweaty, fun. All words to describe last night’s show by Canadian rockers Death From Above. They’re just two guys on drums and bass but they sure know how to make a racket. Get a glimpse of the live experience with this little movie clip (.mov, 1.3Mb) from my camera.
The [...]
